Summary

This module presents an introduction to the propagation of native plants. It is appropriate for property owners and managers interested in introducing or increasing locally-native plants on either rural or urban properties. No botanical expertise is assumed. It is recommended but not required that you work through the previous modules:

  3. Collecting Native Plant Propagules

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this module, a student should be able to:
  1. understand the difference between sexual and asexual propagation;
  2. understand the basic considerations and techniques of vegetative propagation;
  3. Understand the reasons for seed dormancy and how to break it;
  4. put together a suitable growth medium for the propagule whether it be root, stem cutting or seed and understand why there are differences;
  5. grow good healthy native plants.

Recommended Materials and Equipment

The course may be presented with or without computers. The materials marked with a * are recommended for a computer-based presentation.
  1. * Personal computer, access to computer laboratory or computers in classroom with internet access;
